Stuff that you only see in the movies!

Huge red fire engines!

Steaming man-hole covers!

Fire hydrants!

Racing down back streets!

But where are all the cardboard boxes? Crash through a row of those green wheelybins and you would be history very quickly. There have to be cardboard boxes as otherwise the car chases on TV in Starsky and Hutch must have been FAKES!

My first American pub :-)

After our meal at the Space Needle, we met up with Aaron Grady and Neil "MVP" Pike with the intention of chatting over a few beers. Sue was flagging fast so we dropped her off at the hotel and went cruising in Aaron's Land Rover. The first place was sold out and required ID anyway - oops, no passport on me. So after a quick trip to the hotel safe it was on to the Barca for my first alcoholic drink in the US that wasn't bought in a hotel or restaurant. Nice place and would have stayed for a while - definitely beyond a couple of pints of Samuel Adams - if my poor body hadn't started to tire. Pah.

Highlight of Seattle #1

As a kid I used to have a model of a DUKW landing craft and here was a chance to ride in the real thing (admittedly converted to take civilians and not in camouflage colours).

Thank goodness we didn't fly with one of the cheaper airlines - this one looks WAY too "budget" for me!

As you've probably guessed, it's really a test plane for fire-fighters to pour burning fuel over and practice on.

It's always a treat to see nature "in the wild" instead of on the TV so it was great to see icebergs being created (admittedly from 7 miles up but the footage was live!).

This is a glacier slowly flowing into the sea around Greenland. I've no idea how big it is but it sure looks impressive. I'm trying to use Google Earth (fantastic product) to match the photo to the satellite images. Then I can get some idea how massive those chunks of polystyrene packing material at the bottom of the photo are!

Do you know what items you can't send in the post from the US to the UK? The usual suspects like guns and switchblade knives are on the prohibited list but so are ... drum roll... fanfare ... Horror Comics! These are on a par with skins from illegally culled seals! I must say that I'd rather meet a Vampire comic reader in the dead of night than anyone else. You know where you are with a horror comic reader. :-)
